Policeman who died on mission at sea receives posthumous promotion

Ahmed Asif, a policeman who died during a police operation at sea on Thursday, has been given a posthumous promotion in recognition of his loyalty and dedication.

According to the police, Asif had been part of the team involved in a mission at sea in the early hours of Thursday. He went missing from the ‘Police Launch 57’, and was later found dead underwater.

The police have announced that he has been promoted from the rank of senior sergeant to sub-inspector of police.

In a statement announcing the promotion, the police described Asif’s passing as “a great loss to this institution and this country that he so loyally served.”

The police said the posthumous promotion was given in appreciation of Asif’s sincere service in maintaining the peace and security of the community and ensuring the safety of the people.

“We will always remember Ahmed Asif’s exemplary performance and valuable service to the Maldives Police Service will deep respect,” added the police.

The police extended sincere condolences to his bereaved family, loved ones, friends and colleagues.

In an earlier statement, the police said they had begun search and rescue efforts as soon as they discovered Asif’s disappearance.

He was later found dead underwater, and was taken to the AA. Mathiveri Health Center, which confirmed he was already deceased when taken there.

The police said they were investigating Asif’s death, but have not disclosed any information regarding the operation he was involved in, or the circumstances of his disappearance.
