Police officer involved in sea operation found dead

A police officer involved in an operation at sea has been found dead.

According to a police spokesperson, Senior Sergeant Ahmed Asif was part of the team on ‘Police Launch 57’ involved in a mission at sea in the early hours of Thursday.

Asif went missing during the operation, prompting the police to launch search and rescue efforts.

He was later found dead underwater.

The police said that Asif’s body was taken to the AA. Mathiveri Health Center, which confirmed he was already deceased when taken there.

The police have not disclosed any information regarding the operation Asif was involved in, or the circumstances of his disappearance.

The spokesperson said that the police service was providing necessary support to Asif’s bereaved family and his colleagues.

The case is under investigation by the police.
