Twelve years after his dismissal, former senior police spokesman and Inspector Ahmed Shiyam has returned to work.

The High Court on April 16 ordered the reinstatement of Shiyam, who was dismissed from the police force in May 2014.

In a photo shared on Facebook on Wednesday, Shiyam wrote that the police job “means more than anything” in his life, thanking senior officers and officers of various ranks for their support.

“After a long time, I have been given the opportunity to serve the community wearing the uniform that I designed with my own hands,” he wrote.

When he was sacked in 2014, Shiyam was the commander of the North Police Division. He was fired on charges of abuse of office.

When Shiyam was dismissed, he filed the case in the Civil Court. The court ruled that there was no place for him to be reinstated.

The case was filed in the Civil Court in 2019 and the court settled it in 2020. The case was then filed in the High Court in early 2021. The case was decided this April after more than six years in the High Court.

After being dismissed from the police force, he went into business. He is a businessman who now runs some of the city’s most famous restaurants. He later also worked in sports management.

The High Court ruled that the prosecution had not been able to show that the police disciplinary board had conducted an adequate investigation, as it had not submitted any evidence to the court. Therefore, the three‑judge bench ordered that Shiyam be reinstated and paid his salary and allowances from the date of dismissal until reinstatement.
