The ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has decided to move up the date for its upcoming congress.
The party had previously been set to hold its congress in October. But it decided during a senate meeting on Tuesday night to move up the date.
In a post on X on Tuesday night, Ibrahim Shujau, the vice president of PNC and senior deputy leader of the party’s parliamentary group, said that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu presented a motion during the meeting.
While Shujau did not say what the motion was about, Sun has learnt that it was regarding moving up the date for the congress.
Shujau said that the motion presented by President Muizzu, who is also the president of PNC, passed with the unanimous vote of the senate.
“The party will be holding frequent senate meetings. The whole party is getting fully ready for the congress, In Sha Allah,” he wrote.

However, the exact date on which the party plans to hold its congress remains unclear.
PNC’s spokesperson Mohamed Firzul Abdulla Khaleel told Sun that the party would be announcing the exact date at a later time.
Tuesday’s senate meeting was presided over by President Muizzu.
