Ruling PNC parliamentary group leader Ibrahim Falah on Thursday criticised the three former presidents’ upcoming meeting, saying he does not care even if they “sleep in the same room together.”
The three leaders are scheduled to meet on Friday. Falah made the remarks while speaking at a PNC rally held at the party’s camp in Male' City on Thursday evening, which was attended by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu as well.
“We don’t care if these three presidents sleep in the same room for the next one and a half years, there is no problem,” Falah said.
Referring to the ongoing protests over the arrest and detention of journalists Mohamed Shahuzan and Leevan Ali Naseer, Falah claimed the demonstrations were being carried out jointly by the three former presidents.
He accused former President Abdulla Yameen of attempting to create conflict between the government and the public, saying Yameen was doing so because he no longer enjoyed popular support.
“Aren’t they talking about very low‑level, evil, uneducated, cowardly things,” Falah said, referring to Yameen’s speeches at recent PNF town‑hall rallies.
Falah added that the MDP had spoken harshly about him during Yameen’s administration, which he said had even caused disputes between Yameen and his wife at the end of that government’s term.
“But it is sad, sad and regrettable that the same Yameen believes what the MDP is saying today. We condemn in the strongest terms the slander being directed at the public and its leaders,” he said.
Falah also criticised former President Mohamed Nasheed, alleging that Nasheed resigned after “stealing a judge from a court,” handing over the main airport to a foreign party, and selling shares of Dhiraagu and MWSC to foreign entities.
He said that when the current government took office, the country’s key assets were mortgaged and both the government and the state were on the verge of bankruptcy.
