Moosa Fathuhy Adam, who had served as a state minister at the recently abolished Local Government Ministry, has been appointed as the secretary-general of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC).
PNC announced the appointment via its official social media channels on Monday.
Fathuhy replaces Muaz Haleem, who resigned from his role as the party’s secretary-general on April 18. Muaz continues to serve as a state minister at the Defense Ministry.

His resignation came in the wake of a heavy loss to the PNC in the local council elections and referendum held on April 4.
Announcing his resignation on social media, Muaz said he made the decision to step away from administrative responsibilities in the party to provide his “full cooperation to efforts initiated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to shape the party to the aspirations of the people and to make it a party that produces results.”
Muaz said he also believes the position of the party’s secretary-general should be filled by someone who is able to invest all their time to the role.
Muaz was appointed as PNC’s secretary-general on January 13, 2025, after the term of Zeenath Adnan expired.
