President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said he will publicly disclose any council that obstructs the government’s efforts to deliver on its promises.
Speaking at a ceremony in A.A. Rasdhoo to celebrate PNC’s victory in the local council elections in Rasdhoo, Thoddoo and Ukulhas, the President said the government would work with all councils regardless of political ideology, and that all citizens would be treated equally.
However, he said he would not hesitate to reveal any obstruction by councils during his weekly Monday press conferences.
“I will disclose in detail if, during that week or in the past few days, a particular council has blocked government work. I will make that obstacle known,” he said.
The President also criticised the Male' City Council, which secured a clear majority in the recent elections and will continue into the next term.

Referring to newly elected council members, he said some councillors were seen protesting on the streets, behaviour he argued was not what they were elected to do.
“Creating chaos on the streets, using abusive language, and engaging in degrading behaviour, they were not voted in for that. They were elected to carry out responsible work from the day they assume office, whether in the council or the WDC,” he said.
He further criticised the opposition MDP, saying the party was not prioritising religion and national interest.
The President said that regardless of political affiliation, councillors are elected to serve the people, and the interests of their islands must come first.
“If a party goes against the country, if it goes against the interests of the nation, then the party should be abandoned. And if they call for actions that go against religion, we must immediately change course and choose the right path,” he said.
