The People’s National Congress (PNC) administration is the most incapable administration in the Maldives’ history, says Ibrahim Nazim, the leader of the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s parliamentary group.

The South Hithadhoo representative made the scathing remark on Tuesday as he delivered in response as the Parliament’s minority leader to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s annual address back in February.

Nazil said that President Muizzu’s administration had proved especially incapable in delivering its pledges in the areas of economic development and social protection.

He said that the quality of Aasandha services has gone down, with the people facing disruptions to medical care services that they previously had easy access to, posing huge hardships.

Nazil also alleged that the MVR 2.86 billion budget allocated for housing was “mysteriously exhausted” and that he hasn’t seen anyone who was provided housing by tapping into this budget.

Highlighting on the economic challenges facing the country, Nazil said that while the administration pledged to control the US dollar exchange rate, it continues to go up uncontrollably. He also said that instead of cutting costs, the administration continues to hire more political appointees and exhaust the reserves shored up by the previous administration to fund it.

He also questioned the high spending on grand ceremonies and events, labelling the PNC administration as the most wasteful administration in the country’s history when it comes to hosting events.

Nazil also criticized the administration’s foreign policy, alleging that the Maldives was losing its credibility in the international arena and attracting displeasure from major world powers.
