Police report MVR 86,800 lost in thefts over the past 48 hours in Male' city

A total of MVR 86,800 has been reported lost in thefts over the past two days in Male' city, according to new statistics released by Maldives Police Service.

Police said MVR 62,400 in losses were reported to Maafannu Police during the 48‑hour period, while MVR 24,400 was reported lost to Henveiru Police, bringing the total to MVR 86,800.

The statistics also show that police recovered money from several cases during the same period:  

  • MVR 2,400 recovered by Maafannu Police  

  • MVR 224,600 recovered by Galolhu Police  

  • MVR 4,000 recovered by Henveiru Police  

Henveiru Police recorded 21 accidents in the past two days, Galolhu Police recorded 33, and Maafannu Police recorded 37, a combined total of 91 accidents.

While accident numbers had declined last month, police noted a spike in the first week of Ramadan, with 90 accidents reported during that period alone.

Police have urged motorists to slow down and remain attentive on the road to reduce accidents.

Police also noted that theft cases typically increase during Ramadan and have once again advised the public to remain vigilant.
