Taraweeh prayer will be officially performed in mosques in all Maldivian prisons in a first this Ramadan, says Maldives Correctional Service.

Taraweeh is a voluntary night prayer performed during Ramadan.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Correctional Service announced that hafizes have been appointed to lead official congregational Taraweeh prayers in mosques in prisons.

The Service added that the hafizes will also be holding religious sessions for inmates during the holy month.

Photos shared by Correctional Service shows at least three hafizes have been selected for the purpose.

The Correctional Service manages three prisons in the Maldives; the Maafushi Prison in K. Maafushi, the Hulhumale’ Prison, and the Asseyri Prison in K. Himmafushi.

Correctional Service had also partnered with the Islamic Ministry to hold religious sessions for prison guards at the Maafushi Prison and Asseyri Prison ahead of Ramadan.
