22-year-old arrested in Male' with drugs and MVR 69,000

A 22‑year‑old man has been arrested in Male' with suspected drugs and a large amount of cash recovered from a house in the capital.

Police identified the suspect as Mohamed Jaaif Abdullah, 22, from S. Feydhoo. He was arrested on Tuesday during an operation conducted in Male' as part of ongoing efforts to curb drug smuggling in the Maldives.

According to police, officers searched a residence in the Galolhu ward under a court order and recovered 35 grams of suspected drugs along with more than MVR 69,000 in cash.

Jaaif was later taken before the court for a remand hearing, where he was ordered to be held in custody for 15 days.

Police said the case remains under investigation.

Drug-related offences continue to be one of the Maldives’ most persistent challenges, with many young people arrested each year in connection with such cases.
