The Prosecutor General’s Office has filed corruption charges against two former senior officials of Fenaka Corporation in connection with a project to install CCTV cameras across the company’s branches.
Mariyam Dheena Solih, former Deputy Director of Fenaka’s Procurement Department, and Ismail Shamoon, former Head of the ICT Department, have been charged with abuse of official position and corruption.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the charges relate to the awarding of a project on June 25, 2018, to Keiretsu Pvt Ltd for the installation of a security camera system, command center, and video conferencing facilities at Fenaka branches. The prosecution alleges that Dheena and Shamoon misused their authority in awarding the contract and authorized payments before the company delivered the goods.
The basic punishment for the charges is one year, seven months, and six days in prison.
Fenaka has long faced accusations of corruption and political misuse.
The Audit Office released a special audit report on 25 September, detailing extensive irregularities and corruption allegations within the company.
Payments owed by Fenaka to various companies during the previous administration remain unsettled, with lawsuits already filed against the utility provider.
Former Managing Director Ahmed Saeed Mohamed was recently sentenced to four years in prison by the Criminal Court on corruption charges. He denies the allegations, though additional cases are under investigation.
Fenaka, one of the largest state-owned companies, has frequently been accused of being used for political purposes, with corruption cases surfacing repeatedly in audits and prosecutions.
