Today marks the one-month anniversary of the death of 17-year-old Yousuf Alsan Mohamed. Most people have forgotten the accident which took place near Maafannu Bus Terminal on the night of July 13th which saw a speeding motorcycle hit a man using the zebras cross before crashing into a pickup.
However, for Alsan’s parents, his death is a “sadness too great to bear”.
Alsan is the only child of musicians Mohamed Abdul Ghani (Theyrava) and Mariyam Ashfa.
Ashfa shared an emotional post on Facebook, addressed to her son, “Dear Alsan”, on the one-month anniversary of his death being marked today.
“The only relief mom and dad feel for their sadness and pain is experienced through the prayers, duas, dhikrs and Quran verses recited for the sake of Almighty Allah and due to the love we have for you,” she said.
“Mom and dad, and both our families, love you a lot,” she added.
Ashfa said his close friends also loved Aslan a lot, saying this was what she witnessed during his funeral: the special place allocated for Alsan in all their hearts.
“Aslan, my son, you are mom and dad’s whole world,” she stressed, adding that every prayer they make is for Alsan’s sake, to ensure his afterlife is blessed.
“You are a trust that Almighty Allah had placed with mom and dad. He has taken you back to him. He knows everything the best,” she added.
Ashfa said she, and Theyrava’s prayer is for barzakh to be made a safe and peaceful place for Alsan and for Almighty Allah to forgive his sins and grant him a permanent state in Jannah.
“We are working really hard towards being with you in Jannah. We love you, very, very much, Alsan,” she said.
The accident on the night of July 13th resulted injuries to three people: Alsan, who was driving the motorcycle, a 16-year-old boy who was behind him and a 40-year-old man who was using the zebra cross to cross the road.
Alsan succumbed to his injuries on the same night.
Meanwhile, the 40-year-old sustained a brain bleed and was initially treated on ventilator support. He is currently receiving further treatment abroad.
CCTV footage of the accident shows the speeding motorcycle hit the jogger as he used the zebra crossing to jog to the other side of the road. He is seen trying unsuccessfully to move out of the way before getting hit by the motorcycle and getting thrown to the ground, along with the boy in the backseat of the motorcycle. Meanwhile, the boy driving the motorcycle got thrown under the pickup which was headed in the opposite direction.
Notably, there has recently been a rise in accidents involving minors driving motorcycles.
