During his remand hearing on Tuesday, Mohamed confessed to attacking Moosa using a knife during the hearing.
According to multiple sources within Maavah, Moosa was killed in a dispute that arose between the two after Mohamed, an alleged drug addict and petty thief, failed to pay Moosa, an alleged drug dealer, money he owed for drugs.
Sources report that Moosa and his group had repeatedly beaten Mohamed over the issue, including a day before the murder, when they beat him up and threw him into the lagoon.
At around 10:00 am Monday, Moosa and a friend saw Mohamed near the island’s volleyball court and attacked him.
It was during this altercation that Mohamed took out a knife and slashed Moosa’s throat, severing an artery.
Mohamed reportedly fled to the beach, where he threw away his knife into the water and then went to the police station to surrender himself to the authorities.
The police retrieved the murder weapon after Mohamed showed him where he threw it.
The police confirm Mohamed has a criminal record. While he does not reside in Maavah, he is in a relationship with a woman from the island and frequently visits the island.
