President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Wednesday inaugurated work on the development of a harbor in N. Fodhdhoo, bringing the people of the island closer to realizing a dream they have held for the last 40 years.
President Muizzu, who is currently on a four-day tour of N. Atoll, visited Fodhdhoo, an island of some 300 people, on Wednesday morning. In Fodhdhoo, he inaugurated work on the development of a harbor, and laid foundations for a police post and a fitness and recreation center in the island.
Speaking to the residents of the island, President Muizzu provided assurance that his administration will complete the projects.
He also pledged to improve the healthcare system in the island.
“I plan to make my next visit here to join in the celebrations once the project started today are completed. I now bid farewell with this hope,” he said.
The construction of a harbor in Fodhdhoo is contracted to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The project is valued at MVR 53.7 million. And the MTCC is required to complete the project in 390 days.
President Muizzu is scheduled to visit all 13 residential islands of N. Atoll during his current tour.
