Power was restored on early Sunday to Addu, the largest city in the Maldives outside its capital, after a blackout that latest nearly two hours.
Power went out in Addu at around 11:15 pm Saturday.
State utility company Fenaka Corporation attributed the blackout to “an issue with a generator”, but did not provide details.
At 12:48 am on Sunday, Fenaka announced that power had been restored to all affected islands within one-and-a-half hours.
Addu, home to the largest residential population outside of Male’, has been affected for months by frequent power interruptions.
Fenaka – which provides utility services in Addu – installed a 1.8-megawatt generator set on February 21 to fix the power outages in the linked islands of the city. Another 1-megawatt generator set was sent on March 13, and a 1.8-megawatt generator on March 25.
But the city continues to be affected by power disruptions.
