The heavy rain being experienced across the Maldives will begin to clear on Sunday, but the sea will remain rough, forecasts the national weather agency.

A spokesperson from the Maldives Meteorological Service told Sun that the heavy rain will begin to ease up on Sunday and the winds will begin to weaken on Monday. However, parts of the country will continue to experience scattered rain showers.

Maldives has been experiencing heavy rain since Thursday, resulting in several incidents at sea.

The weather agency expects seas to be rough in northern and central Maldives and moderate in the south over the next 24 hours.

The warning comes with a white alert for strong winds in place for the area from HA. Atoll to Th. Atoll, with the weather agency expecting strong winds of 19 - 24 miles per hour with gusts of 45 miles per hour and rough seas until at least 06:00 pm Saturday.

Strong winds and rough seas prompted the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) to issue an advisory on Friday, warning against making unnecessary boat trips.

On Thursday, the MNDF Coast Guard received reports regarding seven different incidents at sea, including an elderly farmer from GDh. Gadhdhoo who remains missing after embarking on a solo trip on a dinghy.
