An apartment in Vinares Flat No. 9 at Hulhumale’ Phase II was extensively damaged in a fire on Monday morning.
Maldives National Defense Forcie (MNDF), via a message to the media on Monday morning, said they received a report of smoking coming out of the sixth apartment on the 13th floor Vinares Flat No. 9 at approximately 7:41am.
MNDF said Hulhumale’ Fire Station attended to the scene immediately following the report and controlled the fire. No one was injured in the incident, the authority added.
According to MNDF, the fire originated from one of the rooms in the apartment.
Although it has been said that the fire originated from a mattress, the cause of the fire remains unclear.
Photos of the scene shared by MNDF show a bunk bed severely burned in the fire.
National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), via a post on X, confirmed they received a report of the fire in the Vinares apartment that resulted in extensive damage. The authority added that it was investigating the incident.
