A fire burned down the bedroom of a home in Male’ City on Thursday, in a second fire incident reported from the capital this morning.
Firefighters from the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) battled two separate fires that broke out near-simultaneously on Thursday morning.
The second fire, which took place at Mithuru in the Galolhu district, was reported at 08:40 am.
According to MNDF, the fire originated from the mattress in one of the bedrooms.
Firefighters have put out the fire.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) states that the house is inhabited by four individuals.
The NDMA said the fire burned down the bedroom, and causes additional extensive damage.
The fire did not result in any injuries.
The first fire broke out at an uninhabited one-story building located on Muniyaa Magu, near Jaya Cushion, in the Maafannu district.
The fire sent thick plumes of smoke over the crowded neighborhood, and prompted the evacuation of 10 people living in the building next door.
The greater Male’ area has seen multiple fires this month, including one at a government-issued flat in Hulhumale’ Phase I in the early hours of June 2.
Five people, including two children, sustained injuries and were rushed to the Hulhumale’ Hospital.
The fire temporarily displaced 15 people, including four children, living in three units of the building.
Another fire broke out on June 5 at a residential building in the Galolhu district of Male’.
28 people, including children, were taken to hospitals for smoke inhalation.
The fire temporarily displaced 109 people living in 25 different apartments in the building.
