Man and woman arrested in 1-kilo drug bust

A man and woman were arrested from the Maldivian capital on Saturday with over one kilo in narcotics and MVR 7,000 in suspected drug money.

The duo was arrested under court warrants in a joint operation by Drug Enforcement and Counter-Narcotics Intelligence.

The suspects arrested in the case are:

• Shifana Abdul Sattar, 38, H. Reef View Hulhangubai, K. Male’
• Hassan Nimal, 44, Ma. Dhagandukendige, K. Male’

The operation was run on Saturday after Counter-Narcotics Intelligence received information that they were involved in possession, use and peddling drugs.

The police searched two properties in the capital – a residence in Machangolhi district and an apartment in Hulhumale’ – and found 1.06 kilos of drugs.

The police did not specify the type of drug found in the operation.

The police also recovered cash amounting to over MVR 7,000, which is believed to be proceeds from drug trafficking.

The case is under further investigation by the police.
