Land purchased from Hulhumale’ for MVR 31M to build ‘safe home’ for domestic violence victims

The government has purchased a land plot from Hulhumale’ for MVR 31 million to build a ‘safe home’ for victims of domestic violence.

According to a Civil Court ruling, the government purchased the private land plot from Hulhumale’ – Lot Number (A-21) 11707 – for MVR 31,500,000 (Maldivian Rufiyaa thirty-one million five hundred thousand).

The land plot was purchased under an agreement executed between Housing Development Corporation, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Family and Social Development.

The land plot measures 10,000 square feet.

The Civil Court ruling states that the government has paid MVR 31 million to HDC in a transaction that complies with both legal and Shariah requirements for business dealings.

As such, the Court declared Finance Ministry as the rightful owner of the land plot.

The safe home for victims of domestic violence is being developed with funding from Asian Development Bank (ADB).
