The Cabinet has decided to establish a special unit in every ministry to oversee the day-to-day implementation of government projects.
According to the President’s Office, the decision was made at Sunday’s Cabinet meeting, where ministers approved a series of special measures to strengthen public service delivery and ensure projects are completed within their stipulated deadlines.
One of the measures is to fully operationalise the “Dhuveli” portal and the “Public Investment Management System” developed by the Ministry of Finance by the end of this week. The Cabinet also decided that both platforms must be updated continuously to enable real‑time monitoring of project implementation.
The Cabinet further resolved to establish a dedicated team within the Ministry of Finance to identify and resolve day‑to‑day issues faced by ministries and state‑owned companies in carrying out their projects.
In addition, a special unit will be created in each ministry to monitor project progress on a daily basis.
The Cabinet also approved coordinated work between contractors and the Ministry of Finance to ensure that projects implemented by the Ministry of Housing are completed within their scheduled timelines.
It was further decided to give special priority to all necessary arrangements to establish the nationwide RTL ferry network and commence services before the end of January next year.
In light of recent hazardous incidents involving chemical storage facilities, the Cabinet decided that such facilities in the atolls may only be approved in safe locations away from residential areas, following the same safety standards applied in Male'.
The Cabinet’s decisions come as part of efforts to accelerate government projects. Many development projects have faced delays, a concern frequently raised by councillors and members representing various constituencies.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has previously stated that although some development projects are not progressing as quickly as hoped, this does not mean they have been halted. He assured that all projects will be completed on schedule.
