President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has established the Maldives Transportation Safety Board.
The new institution, which will operate under the Transport Ministry, was established by President Muizzu on Tuesday.
According to the President’s Office, President Muizzu established the Transportation Safety Board because he believes it crucial for there to be a separate institution improve transport safety and investigate land, sea and aviation incidents and accidents.
The main mandate of the board is:
Release information and publish reports on land, sea and aviation incidents and accidents.
Land and sea accidents are common in the Maldives, most of them in highly populated areas such as the capital Male’. Some accidents result in deliberating injuries and even fatalities.
However, aviation accidents are rare.
