President calls on young khatibs to shape the nation’s intellectual future

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has urged young khatibs to take on the responsibility of shaping the intellectual future of the Maldives, calling on them to lead by example in upholding the country’s Islamic identity.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the National Young Khatibs Symposium, the President said Maldivian and Islamic history show that youth have always played a central role in advancing the religion. He said he was pleased to see growing youth participation in promoting Islam as the nation marks 900 years since embracing the faith.

Noting that khatibs are guides for the community, the President said the hope is that today’s young khatibs will become the scholars of tomorrow. He described the energy and clarity of youth as essential in illuminating society with the light of faith.

Highlighting that more than 700 young khatibs have now been trained across the Maldives, the President said they represent beacons who will strengthen the Islamic environment throughout the country.

“Young khatibs are good teachers who will shape the intellectual mind of the country in the future. My appeal is to the youth to take on this responsibility,” President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said.

The President also urged young preachers to ensure consistency between their words and actions, and to exercise wisdom and prudence in their speech and writing.
