“Intellectual and scientific minds have been nurtured. Mosques have been built as resources. Libraries, Islamic centres and other facilities for the general welfare of the Islamic community have been created through endowments,” he said.
The President said the government will continue to prioritise spending on religious activities to strengthen the Islamic environment in the Maldives. He added that the administration has a clear vision to build modern mosques and expand Sharia-compliant commercial ventures.
“With the help of Allah, the Maldives Awqaf Investments established today will bring new life to the country’s religious sector. It will reflect the value of our spending and contribute to resources that play an important role in national development,” he said.
Maldives Awqaf Investments Limited, established on Saturday, is a 100 percent government-owned company. Its mandate includes building, repairing and maintaining mosques across the country, and developing income-generating endowment properties and commercial projects.
