A local individual who was earlier reported missing this March, has been arrested for alleged involvement in drug smuggling.
Earlier on March 11th, Maldives Police Service announced Abdulla Shihad, 37, N. Manadhoo as missing, and added he was not in contact with his family since 16:51hrs on March 8th. The authority also added that Shihad’s missing complaint was reported around 20:05hrs on March 10th.
Shihad had been living in Male’ City and was not responding to any calls his family made, according to police.
While he has been reported missing, the Criminal Court on Sunday, March 30th, sentenced a remand of 10 days on him. Shihad is suspected of trafficking and peddling drugs. The court added that though some evidence has been produced against him, they were weak.
Only an intelligence report and a police statement at the time Shihad’s arrested were adduced against the suspect, the court’s remand order read.
