Maldivian government has declared Sunday, March 31st as Eid al-Fitr.
Speaking at the ceremony held to confirm the sighting of the moon of Shawwal 1446 on Saturday night, Islamic Minister Shaheem Ali Saeed despite moon not being sighted in the Maldives, the government has received confirmation of moon sighting in some other Muslim nations.
As such, under the policy in the Maldives to sight the moon for the month of Shawwal and to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan, tomorrow will be the first of Shawwal, marking Eid al-Fitr.
Saudi Arabia has confirmed the sighting of the moon earlier, declaring Sunday as Eid al-Fitr.
Meanwhile, neighboring India, Bangladesh and Pakistan declared Monday as Eid al-Fitr, due to no sighting of the moon.
