According to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), the “Eid Evening 1447” celebrations will begin on the day of Eid and continue for the following two days. The events are scheduled to commence at 16:00 each day in Malé, Hulhumalé, and Vilimalé.
In Malé City, the celebrations will be held in the marble-paved area outside the Islamic Centre, extending to Republic Square and the Presidential Jetty area. In Hulhumalé, festivities will take place at Central Park and the Hiyaa Park area in Phase II, while the Vilimalé football ground has been designated as the venue for activities in the district.
As part of the government’s efforts to enhance the festive atmosphere, Sultan Park will also be reopened to the public on the day of Eid al-Fitr.
MNDF stated that the ‘Eid Evening’ program will feature a wide range of activities, including traditional games, entertainment programs, and the distribution of Eid gifts. Various state institutions and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) will set up stalls offering themed games and interactive experiences, particularly aimed at engaging children.
A key highlight of the event will be special displays by MNDF. These will include exhibitions of military uniforms, operational equipment, and weaponry, as well as land and sea vehicles used by the force. Members of the public will have the opportunity to view the displays, take photographs, and gain firsthand insight into MNDF’s military assets.
State-owned enterprises participating in this year’s celebrations include STELCO, MWSC, WAMCO, MPL, HDC, STO, MACL, RDC, MTCC, and MIFCO.
This year’s Eid al-Fitr is expected to fall on Friday next week.
