President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Saturday, has allocated 325.5 hectares from HA. Kelaa for the development of two resorts.
The decision was made in line with his presidential pledge and was formalized through amendments announced by Presidential Decree No. 07/2025.
The amendments were made under the Decentralization Act’s Section 56-1, subsection (a), which grants the President the authority to designate areas for city and island councils.
As such, the newly formed chart of Kelaa has now been codified and published in the Government Gazette.
The President announced the government’s decision to develop a resort at Kelaa lagoon as desired by Kelaa residents and in a manner beneficial to them residents of other neighboring islands during a visit to the island back in February.
President Muizzu has described this year and the coming year as years of development projects. In this regard, the President has recently announced plans to commence physical works on over 550 projects within these two months
