The national weather agency issued yellow alerts on Wednesday, as torrential rain and thunderstorms lash central Maldives.
The Maldives Meteorological Service issued a yellow alert for the area from B. Atoll to Th. Atoll from 02:30 pm to 06:30 pm.
A short while later, it issued an additional yellow alert for L. Atoll from 03:30 pm to 06:30 pm.
The weather agency warned the area will be affected by torrential rain, thunderstorms, gusts of 45 miles per hour, and rough seas.
The bad weather comes as scores of people travel both domestically and internationally for the New Year’s holiday.
The weather agency urged everyone, especially seafarers, to exercise caution and take note of the latest weather updates and alerts.
