A man who was arrested with drugs has claimed in court that the drugs belonged to his father.

The man, a 23-year-old Maldivian, stands accused of use and possession of drugs and drug trafficking.

A large number of drugs and items believed to be used in packaging drugs were seized from the suspect.

According to a Criminal Court order, the suspect denied the charges, claiming that the drugs found on him belonged to his father. However, it was noted that the Investigative Officer testified that the father had not assumed responsibility for the drugs at the scene.

The court order stated that statements from officers who attended the scene, crime scene officers’ reports, the drug test report, and the urine test report all supported the accusations, warranting suspicions against the suspect.

As such, the Court remanded the suspect in custody for 30 days on December 27th, citing the potential threat he could pose to society if released.
