Drug operation in Male' leads to two arrests and seizure of suspected narcotics

Two youths were arrested in a drug operation conducted in Male' City on Thursday.

Drug Enforcement and Counter Narcotics Intelligence arrested Mohamed Najeeh, 31, of Ranthari, R. Maduvvari, and Aminath Shahama Hameed, 18, of Zuvaarimaage, B. Kihaadhoo, during the operation. Police said both suspects were taken into custody on charges of possession, use and trafficking in drugs.

Officers recovered 20.19 grams of suspected narcotics from a house in the Mahchangolhi ward of Male' City. The items were seized under a court order issued for the search.

Following their arrest, Najeeh was produced before the court and remanded for 15 days, while Shahama was remanded for seven days.

Police said investigations are ongoing. Drug enforcement agencies have been conducting frequent operations in Male' City in recent months, with several cases involving young offenders and small-quantity trafficking.
