The police announced on Tuesday that they have recovered the laptops reported stolen from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
Five laptops were reported stolen to the police on Monday. According to police, the laptops were stolen from HDC’s project office in the Farukolhufushi area of Hulhumale’.
A police spokesperson said later on Monday that all five laptops had been recovered.
According to the police, the suspect in the case is already in police custody in a separate drug-related case.
The case is under further investigation by the police.
The theft of laptops come amid a criminal investigation into the HDC over allegations of corruption in the award of land from Hulhumale’.
Several media outlets reported that the laptops were stolen from HDC’s finance department and were linked to the corruption case. However, these reports were dismissed by the HDC as false.
