Police presence has been established at K. Dhiffushi – an island with a population of approximately 1,200 people where local tourism is prevalent – following the opening of a police post at the island.

The police post was inaugurated by Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau and Dhiffushi Council President Ibrahim Sunil during a ceremony held on Wednesday.

The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Deputy Commissioner of Police Faruhadh Fikury, other executive-level police officers, Dhiffushi Council members and staff, officials from other government offices and members of the general public.

Over 19 police posts have been opened across various islands since December of last year.

The national flag and the flag of Maldives Police Service were hoisted during the inauguration ceremony of the Dhiffushi Police Post.

Police said the opening of the police post falls in line with the authority’s efforts to establish neighborhood police service across islands to decentralize the police service and ensure closer engagement with the community in the provision of services. As such, they added that nonstop efforts were being undertaken to establish police presence is island where lacking.
