Mihaaru’s Fathimath Shana Mohamed was named ‘Journalist of the Year’ at the 11th Journalism Awards conferred by Maldives Media Council (MMC) on Wednesday night.
Shana emerged as the winner of the award after competing against four talented journalists. Notably, she was the only female journalist nominated for the award this year.
The awards under the 11th Journalism Awards were presented during a special function held at Umar Zahir Office Building on Wednesday night. Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef presented ‘Journalist of the Year’ award to Shana.
Shana who covers business and economy news entered the journalism field in 2012. She has covered a wide range of news in the field over the years.

Environment and Sustainable Development – Shahudha Mohamed, Dhauru
Veteran journalists, former ‘Aafathis’ editor Ahmed Zahir (‘Fairy’ Zahir) and current editor of ‘Dhauru’ news Moosa Latheef have received the Lifetime Achievement Award. They were bestowed the award by Vice President Latheef.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President Latheef reaffirmed the current administration’s commitment to independent journalism, stressing the administration will extend full support to journalists and journalism.
