Son arrested for beating and robbing 57-year-old mother

A young man was arrested from the Maldivian capital on Tuesday on suspicion of beating and robbing his 57-year-old mother in her home in Hulhumale’ Phase II.

The police identified the suspect as Mohamed Ismail, 28, H. Ehada. K. Male’.

The arrest came after the police received a report at around 06:17 pm on Monday about the sound of a woman crying coming from an apartment in the H13 Tower in the Hiyaa project.

The police went and knocked on the door, and a woman opened the door.

She told the police that her son had beaten her, threatened to kill her with a knife, and snatched her phone before fleeing.

Ismail was arrested under court order on Tuesday.

His mother was treated for her injuries and discharged from a hospital on Monday night.

The case is under further investigation by the police.
