Pres Muizzu and PM Modi meet for bilateral talks

Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met on Monday for bilateral talks between Male’ and New Delhi.

The meeting took place on Monday morning at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi, the State Guest House of the Prime Minister of India.

The meeting was attended by top government officials, including Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Maldivian Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, Finance Minister Moosa Zameer, and Defense Minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon.

Earlier in the morning, President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed received a ceremonial welcome at the Indian presidential palace, Rashtrapati Bhavan. They were welcomed upon arrival at the palace by Indian President Droupadi Murmu and PM Modi. President Muizzu also received a 21-gun salute and inspected a guard of honor.

After the welcoming ceremony, President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat.

President Muizzu traveled to New Delhi on Sunday, in his first state visit to India since assuming office in November. He is scheduled to conclude his visit on Thursday.

Upon arrival in New Delhi, he met with the Indian EAM Jaishankar and also the Maldivian community residing in the city.
