Speedboat topples near Male’ surf point

A speedboat has toppled upside down near Male’ surf point on Tuesday afternoon.

A media official of the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) spoke to ‘Sun’, stating they received report of a toppled speedboat that was traveling near Sinamale’ Bridge.

MNDF further confirmed three were traveling onboard the vessel when it flipped, but all of them have been rescued.

The authority also confirmed that two individuals - a local and a foreigner - in the accident. MNDF added that the injured individuals were rescued as well.

Similar accidents at sea have occurred in the past, especially during poor weather conditions.

Over the past week, majority of the Maldives experienced heavy rainfall accompanied with thunder and lightning.

The Maldives Meteorological Center (MET Office) on Tuesday forecast calmer seas but with strong gusts.
