Designated taxi parking zones to be developed in Male’, Hulhumale’

Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen has announced plans to develop designated parking zones for taxis in Male’ and Hulhumale’.

In a press briefing on Thursday, Ameen said the Transport Ministry will select areas for parking zones in Male’ City and Hulhumale’ within the next two weeks. He said that this includes designated parking zones for taxis.

Ameen said the Transport Ministry has already surveyed a location for taxis in Hulhumale’, and is looking for one in Male’.

He stressed that the parking zones will be designated for vehicles with taxi boards, and that the ministry is drafting necessary regulations.

“But this is not a place for taxis to permanently keep their vehicles. This is for when taxi drivers take a break or a short period like that. This will be developed as zones that all taxi drivers can use,” he said.

The development of parking zones is part of efforts by the Transport Ministry, Home Ministry, Male’ City Council and the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to decongest the streets of Greater Male’.
