Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen says the government will introduce a taxi line service in Addu City this year, following the launch of the Male' Taxi Line on Thursday evening.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at Hulhumale' Central Park, Ameen said the Addu service will be established under the guidance of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. He noted that Addu residents also need an organised taxi system and that preparations are already underway.

“Hopefully, taxi services will be established in Addu very soon this year, at the same level and grand scale as this ceremony here in Male' is for,” Ameen said.

The minister added that the Male' Taxi Line will operate with a system that monitors fares, ensuring that services are provided at the prices set by the Transport Ministry through the dedicated mobile application.

Ameen also highlighted that once the Thilamale' Bridge connects Male', Vilimale' and Gulhifalhu, the taxi network will expand further.

He assured that private taxi centres and independent drivers will continue to operate without restrictions, describing them as essential service providers.

The Male' Taxi Line, launched on Thursday evening, uses 100% electric vehicles. The fleet includes compact cars suitable for Male'’s narrow streets as well as larger vehicles for travel between Male' and Hulhumale'.

The fleet consists of:

  • 60 Changan S0.5 vehicles

  • 90 Changan Lumin and S0.7 vehicles

The 24‑hour service is supported by a dedicated mobile app that allows customers to locate the nearest taxi. MTCC has also introduced a hotline (1655) for booking assistance, app support, and emergencies.
