The Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), founded by local entrepreneur and Sun Siyam Hotels owner Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, has begun a campaign to enlist new members to the party.

MDA Deputy President and Velidhoo MP of the Parliament, Mohamed Abbas, said the campaign will proceed under the instructions of the party's leader, Siyam.

The first event of the campaign began at Noonu atoll, Abbas said and added similar rallies are planned across other atolls.

With this campaign, the party is making preparations ahead of the local council elections, Abbas added.

MDA's leadership will form committees in the islands, listen to public concerns, and strengthen the party's activities. Abbas also said the party is working to strengthen the public's confidence in MDA.

The party, founded in 2012, is the fifth largest party in terms of members, according to the Elections Commission's (EC) data.
