Friday sermon written by a woman in a first in the Maldives

In a first in the Maldives, a sermon written by a female was delivered at today’s Friday prayer.

Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said today’s sermon was written by Hawwa Latheef, adding this marks the first time a female academic has written the sermon. He also noted the translated subtitles of the sermon was broadcasted live on TV.

Shaheem said starting next week, the translated subtitles of the sermon will be broadcasted live on all TV channels.

Today’s sermon was on fostering family ties.

Hawwa Latheef currently serves as a Deputy Minister at the Islamic Ministry.
