Tourist takes Shahadah in Dhiffushi, adopts name Jamila

A 49 year old female tourist visiting K. Dhiffushi embraced Islam on Saturday, taking the Shahadah inside the island’s mosque.

A video shared on social media shows a Maldivian man guiding her through the declaration of faith, which she repeated carefully. The woman, who wore a headscarf and modest clothing during the recitation, has taken the name Jamila.

The man who assisted her confirmed the conversion to Sun. Her nationality has not yet been established.

Maldives is the only country in the world where all citizens are constitutionally required to be Muslim, and visitors often speak of the warm, community‑oriented environment they experience during their stay, with some even choosing to embrace Islam while here.
