Envoy clarifies Maldives’ immediate needs, promises China’s support

Beijing’s top diplomat in Male’, Wang Lixin paid a curtesy call on Maldivian president Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Wednesday, during which she inquired about Maldives’ most pressing needs.

Ambassador Wang called on President Muizzu at his office on Wednesday morning.

According to the President’s Office, the two discussed ways to expedite the implementation of the agreements reached between Male’ and Beijing during President Muizzu’s state visit to China earlier this year.

It said that Ambassador inquired about the most pressing needs of Maldives, and provided assurance that China will provide whatever assistance and cooperation it can to fulfill those needs.

Ambassador Wang highlighted on the close ties between Male’ and Beijing, and the importance Chinese President Xi Jinping places on relations with Maldives, said the President’s Office.

President Muizzu and Ambassador Wang also discussed potential collaborative efforts to boost Maldives’ tourism sector.

Before concluding the meeting, both President Muizzu and Ambassador Wang reiterated commitment to further enhancing the ties between the two countries.

The meeting was also attended by Maldivian Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer and officials from the Chinese embassy.

In a post on X following the meeting, Ambassador Wang said that China is “ready to work closely with the Maldivian side to implement the important consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and President Dr. Muizzu to promote the social and economic development of Maldives and bring more benefits to the Maldivian people.”
