Applications have opened for posts in MDP’s parliamentary group.

According to MDP, the election for the posts will be held next Tuesday, May 28th.

The posts in the parliamentary group are as follows;

  • Parliamentary group leader
  • Parliamentary group deputy leaders (2)
  • Secretary general
  • Deputy secretary general
  • Chief whip
  • Whips (2)

MDP has requested members to submit their expression of interests for the posts via email to [email protected], before 14:00pm on next Monday, May 27th.

MDP, which held supermajority in the 19th parliamentary assembly which concluded last week, only secured 12 seats in the incoming 20th parliamentary assembly.

Mohamed Aslam, who served as the speaker at the end of the 19th parliamentary assembly, served as the MDP’s parliamentary group leader for the majority of the assembly’s electoral term. The post was later held by Hussain Rasheed Hussain, the parliamentary representative for Alifushi constituency.

Both of them failed to defend their seats in April’s parliamentary election.

Members of the 20th parliamentary assembly will be sworn in on Tuesday as well.
