Thief stealing from transformer, dies of electrocution

An individual who attempted to steal from a power transformer in Hulhumale' Phase II has passed away after being electrocuted.

State Electric Company (STELCO)'s Managing Director Hussain Fahmy on Sunday, he received report of the individual's transfer to the hospital after the incident around 04:50hrs.

The individual, now identified as a local man, was transported to Hulhumale' Hospital. 

Fahmy confirmed the individual's demise was confirmed by Maldives Police and the hospital as well. The law enforcement authority however, has not disclosed details about the case.

Earlier on Friday, last week, STELCO MD expressed concerns over the surge in robbery cases from electrical transformers. He had notified several STELCO substations were broken in by thieves.
