MNU awards six with MVR 300K in grants for book writing

Maldives National University (MNU) has awarded MVR 341,100 in grants to six individuals for book writing.

The winners of this year’s MNU Book Writing Grant – a program aimed at inspiring the students and staff of MNU and enriching the nation’s literary culture – were announced in a ceremony held at the university’s administrative center on Monday night.

The grant went to:

  • Zahuda Abdul Aziz (Hayaathuge Tharaana: Thafaathu Lhenthakuge Hazaana)
  • Aishath Suad (Halani Boatu)
  • Mohamed Didi (Island Formation)
  • Aminath Saeeda (Vesheegaiva Lafzu)
  • Fathimath Mohamed (Israhveheenge Eheetheringe Aiymathee Foih)
  • Dr. Mohamed Umar (Thangeedheekoh Visnun: Thabee’athaai Kiyavaidhevidhaane Goihthah)

At Monday’s function, the MNU also announced the winners of its research grant; Dr. Aminath Shiyama and Abdulla Jameel.

Both their research is linked to the education system, with Jameel’s research focused on how grammar is taught in Maldivian schools and the extent to which students have learned it.

The MNU Research Grant was launched in 2014 to promote and encourage research at the university. The winners are selected after vetting by the university research grants committee.

The MNU had decided to award MVR 357,475 in research grants this year.
