President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu commenced door-to-door campaigns in Male’ City on Monday, in a bid to win votes for the ruling PPM-PNC in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The campaign is scheduled to run until April 8. During that time, the president will visit homes between 02:00 pm and 03:00 pm, except for Thursdays and Fridays.
On Monday, President Muizzu visited homes in West Henveiru district of Male’; in Boduthakurufaanu Magu, Sosuun Magu, Abadhah Ufaa Magu, and Roashanee Magu.
The door-to-door campaign comes after President Muizzu conducted a nationwide tour of Maldives ahead of Ramadan, during which he met with officials from over 150 councils.
The parliamentary elections is scheduled for April 21.
Total 389 candidates are contesting for 93 parliamentary seats in this year’s elections. The highest number of candidates are from the main opposition MDP – which are contesting 90 seats, followed by the main ruling PPM-PNC coalition, which is contesting 89 seats. 130 more candidates are contesting as independents, while 39 candidates are contesting on behalf of the Democrats, 10 on behalf of Jumhoory Party (JP), and four each from Adhaalath Party and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA).
