Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has sent messages to leaders of Islamic countries, conveying warm greetings on the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan.
In the messages sent on Monday, President Muizzu extended warm felicitations and sincere good wishes on behalf of himself, the government and the people of Maldives, to the leaders of Islamic countries and all Muslim brothers and sisters.
He also expressed hope that “Almighty Allah bestow generous blessings, and bring the countries together for the peace, progress, and prosperity of the Muslim Ummah” during the holy month.
The holy fasting month of Ramadan, observed by the world’s 1.8 billion Muslims, commenced for many Islamic countries, including the Maldives and Saudi Arabia, on Monday, after sighting the crescent moon.
However, there are some Asia Pacific countries like Australia, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, that will begin Ramadan on Tuesday, after failing to see the crescent moon.
The sacred month, which sees those observing abstain from food and water from sunrise to sunset, marks a period of religious reflection, family get-togethers and giving, across the Muslim world.
