President urges nationwide effort to improve road and building safety after two child deaths

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday urged everyone to work together to ensure safety on the roads and in tall buildings.

The President made the appeal following the deaths of two children in two dangerous incidents. Nine-year-old Zeeva Sinaan Ahmed, died in an accident near Vinares-7 in Hulhumale' on Saturday night. A two-year-old girl died on Tuesday after falling from a STELCO tower on the same floor.

In a post on X, he said the news of the deaths of the two children had gripped the entire country. The President extended his condolences to the families of the two children and prayed for them to be blessed with Paradise.

He said raising public awareness about sudden and dangerous accidents on roads and tall buildings is a national and humanitarian responsibility that must be carried out by the whole society. In particular, the President stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of windows, balconies and railings in tall buildings.

“Building managers and families must work together to take responsible measures in the care of people with mental disabilities and infants,” he wrote.

In addition, the President urged the government, companies, civil society organisations and all individuals to work together to ensure road and building safety, and to organise and conduct awareness programmes with special priority.

Another such incident occurred on Monday. A 16-year-old girl fell from the third floor of Aman Udhares Tower Two in Hulhumale'. The child is being treated at IGMH and is recovering.
